You will need to choose a wood for the:
  • Bottom,
  • Sides, and
  • Paddle

Generally speaking, heavier, more dense woods produce higher pitches.  Normally, the larger
the box, the lower the pitches, but a greater volume is produced.  However, my 6" box will
surprise you with its volume.  It's been said that building turkey calls is more art than science.
